Illinois bus hit by teenage distracted driver

On Dec. 19, a car ran into a bus while it was traveling on Illinois 1 north of Milford. Illinois State Police said that the accident took place shortly before 3:30 p.m. in the vicinity of the Iroquois County Road 1200 North intersection. The accident was reportedly caused by a 16-year-old Sheldon resident who failed to remain in a single lane; police said that this individual now faces a criminal charge.

The reportedly distracted driver was northbound in a 1998 Mazda when the vehicle crossed the center line and ran into an oncoming 2009 Chevrolet bus. Two of the eight passengers in the larger vehicle, a 41-year-old woman and a 43-year-old woman, were transported to hospitals with minor injuries.

After hitting the bus, which ran into an embankment, the teenager's car hit a disabled 2002 Chevrolet pickup truck on the side of the road, pushing the stopped vehicle into a nearby ditch. Like the Mazda and bus drivers, the 48-year-old Covington, Indiana, man inside the truck suffered minor injuries, and all three drivers were transported to Iroquois Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Those who suffer vehicle injuries as a result of distracted driver may find it difficult to recover; these individuals may be forced to delay treatment due to financial hardships, which could result in them needing even more medical care down the line. Any needed repairs for damaged vehicles can also hurt accident victims financially. These individuals may choose to file a personal injury claim in an attempt to recover their expenses so that they can focus on their recovery.
