Losing a parent at a young age is a tragedy under any circumstances. Sadly, an early morning accident left two Illinois families without their mothers. A drunk driver and a stalled vehicle were reportedly the two main components in the deadly Interstate wreck.
The allegedly negligent behavior of one drunk driver resulted in the tragic loss of the two women. The wreck occurred at almost 4 a.m. on I-290 — the Eisenhower Expressway. A man reportedly operating his vehicle while intoxicated struck the rear of a van that was stalled on the roadway. According to authorities, the resulting impact of the rear-end collision killed two of the van’s passengers on impact.
The victims were both young mothers. The apparently intoxicated driver and his passenger were transported to a nearby hospital, but their injuries were not reported to be serious. The driver was arrested and faces charges for driving under the influence as well as leaving the scene of the accident.
In the aftermath of the wreck, two families may be struggling to cope with the financial burden that is often shouldered after accidents such as this. When facing medical bills and/or unplanned funeral expenses blamed on a drunk driver, Illinois families may take comfort in the fact that they may pursue a wrongful death claim in a civil justice system. Although any financial relief ultimately achieved can never bring a mother back to her children, ensuring that expenses incurred from the wreck are covered may ease the road to emotional recovery.
