There have been many people who have been killed by reckless behavior. Unfortunately, drunk drivers continue to risk the well-being of others by illegally driving under the influence. Drinking and driving can bring life changing events in the blink of an eye. Unfortunately, that is exactly what happened in a fatal car accident in Illinois. The accident has left one woman dead and a man in jail without bond.
The crash involved a pedestrian and a motor vehicle and is believed to have happened early on a recent Sunday morning. According to police, the crash took place on a ramp near Route 84. A car apparently hit a 54-year-old woman who died as a result of her injuries.
The police arrested and charged the suspected driver with driving under the influence. Police claim the man was also driving with a suspended license. It is unclear how the man’s blood alcohol level was determined or if the man was injured during the collision. Officials are attempting to reconstruct the scene as they continue to investigate the accident. The identity of the victim has not been released.
As police uncover more information regarding this case, the victim’s surviving family will have important decisions to make concerning the fatal car accident. When someone is killed in an accident through no fault of their own, family members of the deceased have the option of litigating a wrongful death lawsuit in a civil court. If they can prove that another party’s negligence caused the death of their loved one, an award for monetary damages could compensate them for funeral costs, lost wages and other financial losses stemming from the accident and allowed under Illinois law.
