When drunk drivers get behind the wheel of a car, everyone within their vicinities can be in danger. Sadly, many pedestrians often become victims to an intoxicated driver’s actions. Severe to fatal injuries can often occur as a result of these incidents. A recent drunk driving car accident in Illinois has left five injured.
The crash took place on a Tuesday night when an intoxicated driver was apparently trying to flee the cops. The drunk driver struck another vehicle and hit four pedestrians who were waiting at a bus stop. The 48-year-old male driver now faces misdemeanor charges for drug possession, property damage, driving while having a license that had been suspended and DUI. He also faces felony charges for fleeing the scene of the accident.
There was no information regarding the man’s blood alcohol content or if he suffered any injuries. A preliminary hearing regarding the man’s bond has been scheduled. The extent of the injuries suffered by the five victims in the incident was not reported at the time of this story.
In addition to the criminal charges that the Illinois man is now facing, he could potentially become subject to civil claims. In the aftermath of any drunk driving car accident, victims who were injured as a result of another party’s reckless actions have the right to file personal injury lawsuits for their emotional and financial suffering. Monetary relief awarded from a successful claim could help to cover medical bills, lost wages and any rehabilitation costs that have resulted from the unfortunate incident.
