Each day, thousands of Illinois residents travel along its interstate system. These roads are shared by small cars, midsize sedans, SUVs, pick-up trucks and semi-trucks. While some drivers adhere to the posted speed limit, others choose to drive either below or above this speed limit. When a driver does choose to drive in excess of the speed limit, the possibility of a serious auto accident also escalates.
Recently, I-39 was the setting for an auto accident involving a semi-truck and four other vehicles. According to reports, the semi-truck crashed into one car, forcing it off the road and into a ditch. As this car was forced off the road, it hit three other cars, which were pushed into oncoming traffic lanes. A passenger in the car that was hit by the semi died as a result of injuries he suffered in this accident.
During rush hour, Illinois’ interstates are usually busy. Drivers must remain aware of their surroundings and pay attention to their speed. It is believed that speed was a contributing factor in this deadly auto accident. The driver of the semi-truck was cited for his speed.
Illinois police are still investigating this auto accident. One thing that is certain is that a family has lost a loved one as a result of this tragedy. In addition to funeral expenses and other financial losses, this family has suffered a great emotional loss. It is possible that they may decide to pursue legal remedies through the Illinois civil court system in order to obtain financial restitution.
