An individual involved in a serious car accident potentially faces a lifetime of recovering from the injuries suffered. These accidents are often the result of a negligent driver. A recent Illinois accident led to the death of five individuals.
The fifth victim in a chain-reaction accident allegedly caused by the driver of a semi-truck has died. The accident happened after the northbound semi traveled through a construction zone. Apparently, a multi-vehicle collision occurred when the driver abruptly switched lanes. Two cars and a van were also involved in the wreck. Four female victims died at the scene of the crash, and four others were injured, including the victim who recently succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the semi has been charged with false reporting of driving records and failure to maintain a record of duty status, both felonies. He was accused of driving an hour longer than the 11 hours the state allows. He faces an additional charge for neglecting to reduce the speed of the semi to avoid the accident and was being held on a $1 million bond.
Those involved in this tragic Illinois accident suffered unimaginable and irreparable harm because of the actions of an allegedly negligent driver. Since these actions led to the death of five people and the injury of three others, it is possible for survivors and families of the deceased to seek financial restitution for their injuries or for the tragic deaths of their loved ones. If a criminal conviction is ultimately secured, proof of it may advance the cause of those pursuing relief in civil court for monetary damages.
