Parents who have teenagers are often worried about the safety of their children when they are driving on the road for the first time. However, many parents are even more worried about having their children ride a motorcycle for the first time. A motorcycle accident can be more dangerous than a passenger car and typically has a higher risk of injury or even death. This is why lawmakers in Illinois are attempting to make motorcycle safety a higher priority in drivers’ education classes for teenagers.
The newly proposed bill is aimed at reducing deaths caused by motorcycle accidents. Motorcyclists are 30 percent more likely to die in a vehicle crash than other motorists. Part of the problem is that other drivers have a hard time seeing bikers because they are simply not taught to be as aware of them. Therefore, teaching drivers of passenger vehicles to be aware and pay attention for motorcyclists on the road is essential.
The bill seeks to add motorcycle safety as a part of driver’s education courses. Nevertheless, some oppose the legislation. For instance, the Illinois High School Drivers Education Association is actively lobbying against the propose legislation. However, the bill has already reached the House of Representatives School Curriculum and Policies Committee.
Even if the bill becomes law, there are still chances of a motorcycle accident occurring. If a person is injured in an accident, he or she may have to face significant medical bills as a result of the injuries suffered. This can cause financial hardships for many people who may have already been experiencing financially challenging times. However, it is possible for a victim to pursue monetary relief by filing and successfully navigating a personal injury lawsuit.
