How can you avoid common driving distractions?

As a driver, you know you have the responsibility of following the rules of the road. If you neglect to do so, you could cause an accident that harms you and/or many other people.

There are several tips you can follow to help avoid common driving distractions. Consider the following:

-- Turn off your cellphone. This may be something you don't want to do, but it can definitely keep you safe.

-- Use a hands free device. If you must absolutely leave your cellphone turned on, make sure you only communicate via a hands free device.

-- Don't have detailed conversations with passengers. This is easier said than done, but it's best to keep your attention on the road, not those in your vehicle.

-- Don't eat and drink while driving. This is a big mistake that many drivers make, especially when commuting to or from school or work.

-- Set your GPS before you hit the road. If you don't take this step, you could find yourself adjusting the system while your car is moving.

These are just a few of the many things you can do to avoid common driving distractions. However, there is one other thing to remember: The steps you take don't have anything to do with other drivers.

So, while you're paying attention to the road, somebody else could be distracted. Subsequently, this person could cause an accident in which you are injured.

If you find yourself involved in a motor vehicle accident, don't hesitate to call for medical and police assistance. From there, learn more about the cause of the accident.
