As a pedestrian, you should always keep a close eye on the vehicles that are traveling in close proximity. By doing so, you can do your part in avoiding an accident.

Unfortunately, there are times when there is no way to avoid trouble. Along with this, auto-pedestrian accidents are extremely serious. The reason for this is simple: The pedestrian is at a huge disadvantage, as he or she doesn’t have any protection.

If you’re involved in a pedestrian accident, there are several key steps you need to take:

— Don’t move. There is a good chance that you’ve suffered some serious injuries, so it’s best to stay put until help arrives. If you’re unable to call 911, have somebody do this for you.

— Gather witness information. Depending on your injuries, this may not be possible. Even so, somebody else may be able to do this for you. For example, a police officer may want to speak with those who saw the accident unfold.

— Don’t talk. You have enough on your plate for the time being, so you shouldn’t feel compelled to make statements to the driver or his or her insurance company.

Your health and well-being is more important than anything else. As you receive treatment, you can also learn more about your legal rights. This may lead you to find that the driver of the vehicle was responsible for causing the accident.

If you’re struck by a car, your life may be changed forever. This is why filing a lawsuit could be the best decision you make. Any compensation you receive can be used to pay medical bills and for future treatment.
