Illinois auto-pedestrian accident kills 1, injures 2

Last Friday evening, a 58-year-old woman died after being struck by a vehicle in Illinois. A 54-year-old man, who was also on foot, suffered injuries in the auto-pedestrian accident. A third victim, the 28-year-old female driver of a different automobile also suffered injuries. This two-car auto-pedestrian accident reveals how even when the at-fault driver did not strike the people on foot, it can still result in a dangerous situation, injuries and even death.

Sources say the accident occurred on the Northwest Side of Chicago at around 9 p.m. on Friday. A vehicle operated by a 65-year-old woman struck the automobile driven by the 28-year-old. The first vehicle then went on to strike the two pedestrians. According to the news report, the 65-year-old received citations for failing to stay in a lane and failure to "reduce speed to avoid an accident." Reportedly, the auto-pedestrian accident is still under investigation with Major Accidents Investigation Unit.

The female pedestrian perished in the hospital about an hour after the accident occurred. The male pedestrian and the driver of the second car were reported in stable condition at two different hospitals. The at-fault driver refused medical treatment at the scene of the accident. The fact that the woman was cited at the scene indicates the probable presence of negligence, carelessness or recklessness. The survivors must now decide if they want to pursue legal action to hold the responsible party accountable.

Making these decisions are never easy, which is why it is so important to seek a legal opinion. The simple act of having an honest discussion with a personal injury attorney can often point survivors of accidents like this one in the right direction.
