Illinois crash devastates young family

An Illinois family suffered an unthinkable tragedy this week a young pregnant mother and her three young sons were involved in a fatal accident in Beecher, which is just south of Chicago.

The mother and her infant son were killed in the crash on the morning of July 24. The 4-year-old and 6-year-old sons were transported to a hospital in critical condition and then moved to another hospital, where they were placed on life support.

Things turned even more tragic the next day when the 4-year-old died from the injuries he suffered in the crash. The 6-year-old, at last report, was in a medically-induced coma.

According to the local sheriff's office, the 29-year-old woman was driving an SUV around 8:30 a.m. in an unincorporated area of the town when she was struck by a 25-year-old driver in a pick-up truck. Authorities say that the driver of the truck ran through a stop sign and slammed into the SUV on the driver's side. Local news footage shows both severely damaged vehicles in the middle of a cornfield.

The mother was taking her children to a Bible camp at the time of the crash.

The pick-up truck driver reportedly suffered relatively minor injuries, including a cut on his arm for which he underwent surgery. So far, no charges have been filed against him because the investigation is still ongoing.

A fund has been set up at a local bank to help the grieving husband and father with expenses. The family had built their dream home in this rural area. Neighbors described them as the perfect family.

Often, as one of the family's neighbors told a reporter, people drive too quickly in rural areas like this one. However, as this crash makes obvious, it's essential to be careful and look around you at all times. Crashes in these sparsely-populated areas can be just as deadly as those in more urban ones. There are still speed limits and signs that must be obeyed.

When someone neglects to do that, victims and surviving family members can and should determine what their legal options are for seeking compensation to help them move on with their lives.
