What are the top causes of warehouse accidents?

Working in a warehouse setting can be fast paced and exciting. It can also be extremely dangerous, especially if you or a coworker isn't paying attention to the surroundings.

Here are some of the top causes of warehouse accidents:

  • Slips and falls. These accidents cause a large portion of workplace injuries every year. It's not possible to prevent all these accidents, but it's important to be aware of hazards such as stray cords, debris and spills.
  • Falls. Although most warehouse workers work at ground level, falls remain a major problem. For example, an employee could fall when climbing a rack to locate a product. If for any reason you will be working at height, it's important to have the appropriate safety equipment in place.
  • Equipment accidents. There is no denying the fact that the use of equipment can make life easier on warehouse workers. However, there are many dangers with this, such as improper use or horseplay.
  • Harmful substances. Depending on the industry, workers could be exposed to harmful substances, such as propane. Proper ventilation, combined with the use of safety equipment, is a must.

These are just a few of the many causes of warehouse accidents.

If you are injured on the job in a warehouse setting, you should receive immediate medical attention while also reporting the injury to your employer.

In the event that you are unable to return to work right away, you may be able to file a workers' compensation claim. This will entitle you to regular payments until you are able to return to your job.
